AUK Web Development

AUK is a leader in the field of bespoke website design and development. We offer solutions of all sizes – from single-page profiles and basic business profiles, to fully transactional e-commerce websites.

PHP

PHP stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor", and is a general-purpose scripting language. It is the programming language of choice on approximately 75% of all web servers.

PHP is commonly used for producing dynamic web pages. To achieve this, PHP code is embedded into HTML documents and interpreted by a web server, which reads through the PHP in order to generate dynamic document.

.NET

.Net is the Microsoft framework designed for application and website development. It is the choice of many developers, since it is capable of interoperability – this means that it supports several programming languages, and can utilise code written in other languages.

Here at AUK, we utilise this framework to develop high performance multi-user database applications, with the data managed in either MySQL or MS SQL – whichever you prefer.

MySQL

MySQL is a widely used, free database engine which is capable of multi-user access to multiple databases. It was originally developed by Sun Microsystems, the developers of the Java programming language, and purchased by Oracle in 2010.

MS SQL

Microsoft SQL is a relational model database server. The express edition is free, and is limited to using 1GB of memory and up to 10GB of database files. There are, however, alternative paid editions which remove these limitations.

Wordpress

Wordpress, powered by PHP and MySQL, is the world's leading blogging framework and CMS (Content Management System), with over 32 million publishers worldwide. There are thousands of pre-designed themes available to kick-start your website from the very beginning. There are also applications for various mobile devices (Android, Blackberry, iPhone), which allow users to publish content wherever they may be.

Here at AUK, we offer the setup, hosting and management of your Wordpress-enabled website, as well as custom themes, plugins and widgets.

W3C

W3C is the leading authority on HTML & CSS. At AUK, we strive to meet the W3C standards to write websites which are fully validated, allowing for optimal performance in all web browsers.

Qt

Qt is a widely renowned cross-platform toolkit for application development. Originally developed by Trolltech, the framework is now owned by Nokia, and developed by their Qt Development Frameworks Division.

There are many popular applications which are developed using Qt, including Autodesk, KDE, Google Earth and Adobe Photoshop Album.

wxWidgets

wxWidgets is a free, open-source, cross-platform toolkit for creating Graphical User Applications (GUIs). The toolkit is compatible with a variety of programming languages, of which the key ones are C++ and Python.

Many popular applications are built using wxWidgets, including Audacity, FileZilla and Code::Blocks.

Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a graphical editing program which is widely used by photographers for its powerful photo-manipulation tools as well as by designers and artists for it's wide range of graphical tools.

Photoshop uses a "layer" system that allows you to independently manipulate sections of an image without affecting others. The software can also be used in 3D modelling and animation processes. Photoshop also allows plug-ins to further extend its functionality.

Flash

Adobe flash is a multimedia platform that can be used to add animation, interactivity and videos to websites.

Flash allows for user interaction and so is most frequently used for games and advertising.

Windows

Windows is the current leader in the graphical user interface (GUI) market.

It has been developed through a number of different versions since 1985, the most recent of which is windows 7.

Linux

Linux is a free operating system, available for use on both desktop computers and servers. Since it is open-source, there are many "flavours" of Linux, Ubuntu being one of the most popular. Here at AUK, many of our customers' websites are hosted on Linux servers, as it helps to reduce your costs without sacrificing performance.

Facebook

The Facebook API offers simple social integration to your website – if a user is logged into Facebook, they can automatically be logged into your website too! The ability to access someone's Facebook profile also allows you to find out more about who your users are.

Twitter

Twitter is a very simple way to share content with a dedicated userbase. If someone "follows" your profile on Twitter, they will have instant access to any information you may wish to share – be it blog entries, new products, or even just a friendly chat.
